The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) awarded approximately $10.5 million to seven different institutions as part of the new NASA Aerospace Skilled Technical Workforce Hubs initiative, or NASA State Hubs. The hubs are intended to strengthen and streamline the processes for students pursuing skilled technical jobs within the aerospace industry. Through this program, NASA seeks to accelerate the development of necessary technical roles to meet the ongoing demand for skilled workers in the space industry.
Associate Administrator Elaine Ho of the Office of STEM Engagement stated, “The need for technical talent is already urgent and will only continue to grow as we return humanity to the Moon and set our sights on Mars and beyond. NASA is uniquely positions to be the catalyst and convener that accelerates America’s aerospace workforce development and fosters the next generation of technicians.”
The hubs will create programs over the next three years that build important industry skills, raise awareness about career pathways through education and apprenticeships, and foster connections between employers and job seekers.
